After School Tutoring Program

Below is information that pertains to the 2008-2009 after school tutoring program.  At this time (August, 2009), we do not have details on the program for the 2009-2010 program.

The BMS after school academic intervention program is by invitation-only and focused solely on improving math and reading skills for students who are at or near proficiency based upon their 2008 TCAP scores and or their THINKLINK assessment at the beginning of this school year.  Additional students may be invited to attend based upon parent request and teacher recommendation.

This is the 2nd year of the program and we have had great results with our students.  Approved by the district and funded by the state, the program is held 4 days each week, with each grade level having their own specific day:

Monday - 5th Grade
Tuesday - 6th Grade
Wednesday - 8th Grade
Thursday - 7th Grade

Students meet with a teacher from 4:00 to 5:30 with 45 minutes of time dedicated to improving reading and 45 minutes to mathematics.  Student/teacher ratio is not more than 6:1.

Transportation to/from home is NOT provided.  Parents must sign a form enrolling their child and agreeing to the standards of conduct required.  Students that do not have the necessary work ethic or behavior will be asked to leave the program.

There is no charge for the program, but parents and students are encouraged to offset the cost of their workbooks through a donation of $16.00. For more information, please contact the school guidance office or email Mr. William Hedges.
